The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift
A third entry franchise of The Fast and the Furious popular movie, The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift has
actually nothing in common to the first two entries when it comes to the characters or story, the only thing that binds it to the famous title
are the exceptionally fast cars, exhilarating stunts, the adrenaline-rush of reckless racers, exploding rivalry, and that added touch of the
Japanese’s unique driving technique called “drifting”, that induces the fuel to the entire film.
The title “The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift” refers to a distinct
driving method in Japan called “the drift” or “drifting” that uses the handbrake and clutch which allows it to slide in any corner even at high
speed; the rear tires of the cars slip at a greater angle more than the front tires. The technique has become a popular sport in Japan
where drivers keep the cars sliding sideways at the same time as running throughout a course full of turns and maintaining control of their
speed, line, and angle. The race is judged through these aspects plus an overall on show factor and the time taken for completing the
course.
The plot of The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift revolves around a seventeen-year old teen, Sean Boswell, who has a passion
for speed that has gotten him seven tickets for speeding in three states, and two reckless-driving indictments. Sean’s character is played
by Lucas Black, and portrays the role of a too-fast teen that always gets in trouble, resulting to him being sent to Tokyo Japan to live with his
estranged father to escape juvenile detention.
In Tokyo, Sean finds himself amidst another rapidly increasing underground racing scene where he stumbles into racers that are
experts of the “drift”, particularly the Drift King (DK) that creates another mess in his life. He tries to race the DK but with his
inexperienced skills of the drift, he losses. One thing leading to another that ends him up being mentored in the art of the drift by an
American teen; Sean’s expertise as a drift racer progresses, as well as the hostility between Sean and DK.
The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift is packed with a minimum of half-dozen bracing, spectacular stunt
crashes that captivates the broad audiences feel for action and speed; viewers of the film has not been disappointed when it comes to delivering
a score to the expected “similar” reckless, wild driving that the first two films contained.
