Tokyo Kosei
Established in the year 1960 through the guidance of a Buddhist organization based in Japan, Tokyo Kosei Wind
Orchestra (TOKWO) was formed by Risso Kosei- kai with the goal of mirroring the flourishing professionalism of music in the country. In a global
scale, TOKWO is identified to be one of the most competitive groups that already had a series of concerts in Europe, visiting regions such as
Switzerland, Netherlands, France, Britain and Austria.
Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra (TOKWO) can be normally seen in Fumon Hall. The venue is a huge auditorium which is right inside
the premises of a school campus. Aside from catching a presentation from TOKWO, the place is also home to the last stage of the competition
organized by All- Japan Band Association (AJBA). In the presence of almost 14, 000 participants each year, the musical group is given the
responsibility to produce premier recordings of required sound tracks for the contest alone.
All over the world, Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra (TOKWO) is considered to be
the finest in the field. Recently, the Dallas Wind Symphony (DWS) of the United States has been regarded as their rival. This musical group is
based in Texas which was founded by Kim Campbell together with a professor from Southern Methodist University, Howard Dunn. At this juncture,
TOKWO and DWS are both regarded with high esteem in creating melodies proficiently.
In January 1, 2000, Douglas Bostock was appointed as Principal Conductor of Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra (TOKWO). Before he
assumed the position, the role was taken care by Frederick Fennell who until now, has authority in TOKWO as Conductor Emeritus. Bostock is a
veteran in the musical group where he began in 1996. Since then, he has been a regular guest in their performances all over Japan. Even if his
orientation is with a complete symphony piece, he was able to adjust not only quickly but even excellently.
Recognized as one of the outstanding British harmony directors in his generation, Douglas Bostock was under the schooling of
Francis Travis in Freiburg and Adrian Boult in London. Prior to his connection with Toko Kosei Wind Orchestra (TOKWO), he was
associated with the Southwest German Philharmonic, Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Philharmonic of Bohemia and Munich Symphony
Orchestra, among the others. Bostock is renowned for interpreting the classical works of British and French composers that were popular in the
twentieth century.
